Character Information

Name: Johan Anderson
Canon: Yu-Gi-Oh GX
Canon Point: End of Season 3
Age: 17
History: Here!
Personality:

At a young age, Johan has always been able to see Duel Spirits - the monsters in his Deck. Due to this ability, rare in the fact that very few people are able to see Duel Spirits, Johan is quick to develop a passion for Dueling. Because of this, with his Duel Monsters by his side, he possesses an outgoing and jovial personality, never one to let himself get down. This kind of behavior is what makes other compare him to Judai, who shares a similar sort of personality. This causes the two of them to become practically inseparable as both of them share the same passion for Dueling and possesses the ability to see Duel Spirits.

Johan has also been shown to care deeply for his friends, often willing to risk his own life as long as it means to save them; though, if they’re Judai’s friends as well, Johan wouldn’t hesitate to do what he can to help them out. See: Marufuji Sho. In the beginning, Johan didn’t know Sho very well as there was a lack of interaction between the two, but he didn’t hesitate to save Sho, who had been captured by O’Brien during their first couple of days at Duel Academia. Sho had been hanging on a tree overlooking the ocean then, but Johan still risked his own life to save him. When they were transported into the Dimension World, this side of Johan has made itself known a few times, especially his fierce drive to protect Judai.

Surrounded in a desert-like world where their own classmates have been turned against him, Johan could only do what he can to save Rei after she was afflicted with an illness from a Yubel-possessed Marcel while ensuring the safety of the rest of their friends. However, it appears his main goal, the one that’s driving him, is his own desire to protect Judai. This was revealed when the two were forced to separate after Johan has been informed about the ‘Rainbow Dragon’. Despite this reluctance, Johan promised Judai he’ll come to help him as soon as he can before he goes to retrieve ‘Rainbow Dragon’, but in order to get it, he’d have to duel against Marufuji Ryou.

However, this drive of Johan’s to protect his friends - to protect Judai - can also become reckless and think little of his own life. A fine example of this will be when Johan used ‘Rainbow Dragon’s’ power to send everyone safely back home with himself as the exception. He doesn’t seem to think twice on acting on his impulses if it meant that, in the long run, the people he cares about remains safe. Johan possesses this desire to ‘help’ others if he has the power to do so, prompting him to send everyone home and later on, after being saved from being possessed by Yubel, he lends Judai his desk to help him defeat the wayward Duel Monster.

Otherwise, Johan is a strategic thinker, as one would have to be when playing Duel Monsters. While he is similar to Judai, Johan has proven himself to be a little sharper than his friend. He is quick to notice during Judai’s duel with O’Brien that something wasn’t quite right with the latter; Johan tends to notice things others can miss, though he doesn’t quite voice these out loud. He is also quite level-headed unless his friends get into danger, though he tries his best to remain as the voice of reason and tries his best to remain calm.

Johan’s family is his Duel Monsters. He often says that they were the ones who has chosen him to be their Master, and because of this, Johan often likes to duel in a way where he can test the bonds Duelers have with their Decks and he wants to be able to see their true potential.

Abilities:

Johan possesses the rare ability to see Duel Spirits since only three of them have been known to see them: him, Judai, and Manjoume. However, Johan is also capable of using the power of Rainbow Dragon: this would allow him to open dimensional gateways and even possess the power of purification.

Strengths:
Loyal
Friendly
Strategic thinking
Courageous
Always willing to help people out

Weaknesses:
Reckless
Impulsive
Can be somewhat naive
Selfish in the way that he would do things without consulting with others. This could be similar to arrogance.
Quiet in the way that he likes to keep things to himself and stays mysterious.

God/Shinki: God
Why?: Johan is always willing to help people out, regardless of who they may be. Along with Rainbow Dragon’s power, he’s willing to do anything to either purify those afflicted by the darkness or simply go out of his way to help people remain safe.

Top 3 Choices: Tonatiuh, Zhulong, Belenus

God Type:

Johan would be a benevolent type of god. The chances of him using his shinki may actually be low because he isn’t the type to misuse anyone for his own purposes. He isn’t the type to push people either unless he believes it may help them adjust more comfortably outside of their comfort zone. However, Johan would like to help out anyone that he can, sometimes perhaps a bit too reckless for his own good if it means he can help and/or protect them. Johan is just an overall good guy who wouldn’t even call himself a god, but he’ll take on the mantle if it means lessening the burden for others and as long as his friends and family are safe.

Power:

Thought Creation (or Imagination Manifestation): Johan is capable of bringing anything he imagines or perhaps even think about to life, but as a limit, Johan is only capable of bringing his Duel Monsters to life. His Duel Monsters will retain their own personalities and will be capable of speaking. Imagine it almost as if they were in a Duel and instead of being holograms, they have a solid form.
